SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 30. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The president of the Gomera Socialist Association (ASG), Casimiro Curbelo, admitted on Tuesday the “certain shipwreck” suffered by the Pact of Flowers – made up of PSOE, NC, Podemos and ASG – in these elections, for which reason shown to be in favor of reaching an agreement with the only political forces that are currently talking about forming a government majority: CC and PP.
“The key is held by the deputies, the majority has it. What happens is that the Pact of Flowers had a certain shipwreck in part. Therefore, now the rest of the parliamentary groups are there and they have to conform to majorities and we have three deputies “, Casimiro Curbelo stated in statements to the media.
Curbelo wanted to recall that in 2019 he spoke with both blocks and finally a government pact was made for the Canary Islands with the center-left parties. “Now we have three deputies and they will call us these days and we will speak to form a parliamentary majority and so that the Canary Islands have the certainty that they have a government that plans to work for the future of the citizens,” he said.
On the intention of the general secretary of the PSOE Canarias, Ángel Víctor Torres, to even form a minority government to continue leading the Executive, Casimiro Curbelo considers that the Canary Islands “is an autonomous community that is lucky in that there has never been an absolute majority nor will there be for a long time.”
The ASG leader acknowledges that Ángel Víctor Torres won more seats than any other political force and parliamentary logic suggests that he should be the one to start the negotiations to form a government. However, Casimiro Curbelo warns that this “does not mean in any way that [las negociaciones] they are going to bear fruit”. In fact, he remarked that if he started them, there is already a parliamentary majority that is trying to be formed by the CC and PP.
Curbelo stressed that one must get used to the fact that “parliamentary majorities are made up of what comes out of the polls and what came out of the polls. There are more deputies from the center right than from the center left. That is the reality. Therefore, let’s assume whatever we have to assume, with pain or without pain, but that is the reality, and to work from any area for the Canary Islands and for the canaries”.
In this sense, he stressed that the only political force of the Pact of Flowers that remains after last Sunday’s elections is the Agrupación Socialista Gomera. “We were useful at the time for the construction of a better Canary Islands and we can be so in the future. We are going to see what the negotiations are and what each political force proposes,” he said.
Asked if he has any red line, Casimiro Curbelo made it clear that from the moment that “the rules of the game are defined and the citizens vote, there is no longer anything to comment on.” “Therefore, the red lines seem to me to be unfortunate from a democratic point of view,” he added.
Finally, there is no doubt that the electoral advance announced yesterday by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, “is going to precipitate everything, including the inauguration of the different regional parliaments and local corporations.” In his opinion, “the President of the Government has caught everyone with the wrong foot, including his own. It is legitimate because he has the powers to do it, but now we all have to run.”
