Canarian Coalition loses for the first time the elections in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Canary Coalition has lost the elections in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council for the first time, going from the 10 councilors it had in 2019 to a total of nine. The socialist Patricia Hernández thus becomes the winner of these elections by achieving a total of ten representatives in the institution and thus winning the fight against the list of José Manuel Bermúdez.

However, Vox bursts into the institution with three councilors and the PP grows by going from having three councilors to a total of five. Therefore, Bermúdez could govern again if he seals an agreement with the PP like the one he has carried out in recent years.

One of the most striking data from election day is that the United Yes We Can disappear from the institution, whose candidacy is headed by the historic United Left councilor Ramón Trujillo, who remains outside the institution.

José Manuel Bermúdez, although he has congratulated the socialist candidacy, has assessed that “moderation and political stability have won” in the city, despite the irruption of the extreme right and the rise of the PP.

For Bermúdez, Coalición Canaria “has run a good campaign” and the result has promoted that “the most radical vote on the left has concentrated on a single option.”

For her part, the winner of the elections, Patricia Hernández, has assessed that her city “wants a mayor and will have a mayor”. “Just like I worked my ass off in the campaign, I will work my ass off so that Santa Cruz has a mayor” who will make “that desire for change reflected at the polls” come true, she said.

The candidate was confident in governing and has insisted that she will not “disappoint.”
