He Candelaria Town Hall has commissioned the project to request again the concession in Public Maritime Terrestrial Domain of the local poollocated in The burner for more than 60 years and which has been closed three years due to Costas’s refusal to renew the concession.
It should be remembered that the first concession was granted in 1970 for 15 years (until 1985) and since then it was allowed to expire, until in 1992 the State was requested to review it without agreeing to the concession, which was requested again in 2011. always with the pool working. The administrative concession was resolved in 2018, when the City Council rehabilitated the facility, but it was not accepted.
The municipal plenary session of May 2020 approved requesting the concession of the 3,900 square meters that the pool and its facilities occupy for 15 years, at a rate of 39,413 euros per year, when the General Directorate of Coasts demanded 62,350.40 euros. Since then, the pool has remained closed, with the damage that this does to the public, without initiation courses, without aquatic rehabilitation and without leisure.
Since January, with the transfer of powers in matters of Coasts, the City Council has been working with the Government of the Canary Islands for the sake of a new concession request, with a new project that overcomes the objections that Madrid has considered. The City Council has continued to defend the initial proposal by presenting an appeal before the National Court, in addition to requesting precautionary measures. While waiting to unblock the situation, the City Council has sought alternatives to closing the pool and will start a weekly activity in July that will include an hour of therapeutic swimming in a heated pool and sports classes aimed at users of the Integral Recovery Center (CERI). and the Antón Guanche Senior Citizens Association, assessing other initiatives aimed at the entire population by virtue of agreements with different sports centers.
