Arona Guard Court number two has initiated preliminary proceedings to clarify an alleged vote-buying in the southern municipality. On the afternoon of this past Thursday, the Canary Islands Coalition (CC), the Popular Party (PP) and Más por Arona filed a complaint with the National Police for an alleged case of electoral crime.
The accusation is based on a conversation in a private WhatsApp group for sports activities, which includes a trusted position of the mayor, José Julián Mena, of the PSOE, according to the PP in a statement.
socialists they lamented “the desperate and dirty campaign” of the opposition and demanded a correction to the complainants. They added that this pre-electoral period has been characterized by “insults, false news, harassment of candidates by extreme right-wing media and accusations against relatives of party leaders”, all of this in view of “poor electoral forecasts” for the opposition.
The judicial authority has summoned the complainants to give a statement this coming Saturday, May 27 and, based on this statement, other possible proceedings will be determined. Tomorrow I will inform you, you do not need to ask me, it will be when the scheduled proceedings are finished. On the other hand, no precautionary measure has been taken and, for the moment, the possibility is not being considered nor has anyone requested it.
