Two students from Hoteles Escuela de Canarias (Hecansa), Gara Morales and David Hernández, together with their assistants, Fernando Guadalupe and Jhonny Jesús Pérezall students of this public company dependent on the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islandshave been winners, in second and third position, of the 8th Canary Islands Young Chefs Championship 2023 -Binter Grand Prize- ‘La Cocina en Verde’which is part of the program of activities of the 8th Gastronomic Hall of the Canary Islands – GastroCanarias 2023.
The event is supported by the Island Council of Tenerifethrough the Tenerife Gastronomy Planwhich is part of the “Saborea Tenerife” Product Club, dependent on the public company Turismo de Tenerife.
Contest at the Tenerife Fairgrounds
The official day of the competition, which took place last Wednesday at the facilities of the Tenerife Fairgrounds, included the participation of five finalists and their respective assistants. Among them were also Raquel Trujillo and her assistant, Carolina Álamo, also students at Hoteles Escuela de Canarias.
Like the rest of the finalists, they had to devise and prepare a dish for the public. The ingredients came in a surprise box provided by the organization, with a selection of products from the Official Supermarket with which they had to prepare the dish. Finally, the Grand Prix was decided by a Single Jury, which took into account aspects such as food hygiene, presentation and the ability of the participants.

Participation in this type of experience is part of Hecansa’s training proposal.
