The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and candidate for re-election for the Canary Islands Coalition (CC), Jose Manuel Bermudez, has announced that the local corporation will appear in the legal case against number two on the PSOE list, Jose Angel Martin, arrested yesterday for an alleged assault on a citizen who suffered a fractured tibia and fibula.
Martín went to court this Thursday and was released without precautionary measures as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of less serious injuries.
Bermúdez has indicated at a press conference that the presence of minors and the possible consequences of personal or material damage “force” him to take this initiative, to “guarantee the interests of the public administration.”
He has emphasized that “we are not facing an incident in the sphere of people’s private lives”, but rather “a very serious event that occurs during an electoral visit to a sports facility, with girls present and as part of a campaign aggressive, destructive and negative that the socialist candidate -Patricia Hernández- has been developing in her attempt to damage the image of our city”.
Bermúdez believes that the explanations given by Hernández, who announced that José Ángel Martín has resigned in writing from all his charges, “are insufficient”, and has accused her of making an account of the facts that “do not correspond to reality” that They detail neighbors and witnesses, “of whose credibility I have no doubt,” he said.
From her point of view, Patricia Hernández “has made a mistake” for various reasons: “because she has taken too many hours to explain” and because “she left the place of the event without even being interested in the state of the neighbor who was attacked aware at all times of what had just happened.
And he was also wrong, Bermúdez has abounded, by “leaving his own team and his teammates behind.”
The mayor of Santa Cruz has said he regrets “very much” what happened, because the city “does not deserve this”, to the same extent that he regrets “the strategy of obsession and opposition towards this capital that Patricia Hernández has carried out these years”, and that “the PSOE ends its campaign in this unfortunate way.”
Bermúdez has insisted that the witnesses’ version contradicts the explanations given by the socialist candidate, but beyond all this, he has censured that Hernández “was not interested in that person who is injured.”
“I can guarantee that if a resident of Santa Cruz in a municipal sports facility were injured on the ground, they would never leave that facility. I would be with him and even accompany him to the hospital. Because that is what makes us first people and then politicians. I always prefer to act as a person, with humanity ”, he finished.
