A total of 223 Resident Internal Physicians (MIR) who complete their specialized health training this month will be hired to begin their work phase in health centers and public hospitals attached to the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), as reported by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.
These three-year contracts are produced within the framework of the SCS Temporary Reactivation Program, whose objective is to adapt human resources to the health objectives demanded by society and guarantee the stability of specialists who finish their training.
These contracts are limited to the Temporary Program of Reactivation of the SCS in accordance with the provisions of Law 55/2003 of the Framework Statute of Statutory Personnel of the health services, the result of a work that has been carried out since the modification of the contracting norm. of statutory staff, in 2022.
The steps followed by the SCS since December 2022 focused on completing the stabilization process for the 12,282 SCS workers, increasing the organic workforce of the SCS with the incorporation as temporary workers of the 7,055 temporary workers hired during the pandemic, and stabilizing with employment contracts. three years to the MIR who finish their training period.
FAMILY DOCTORS.
By levels of care, in Primary Care the 74 MIR in Family and Community Medicine trained in the SCS teaching units are hired, which represents all the new MIR in this specialty who have completed their training period in recent weeks.
For its part, in Hospital Care, 149 new professionals who have completed their training period are incorporated into the staff of the Canarian public hospitals. These new professionals will develop their professional work in the different medical and surgical services of the SCS hospitals.
The new specialists will be assigned to new actions related to the different health programs that the SCS currently has active, such as the Comprehensive Strategy for Primary and Community Care +AP, the Mental Health Plan, the Early Care Plan or the Plan Addresses for the reduction of waiting lists, among others.
These contracts mean, on the one hand, an increase in the number of workers at the levels of care of Primary Care and Specialized Care, which will strengthen the response capacity of the health system to the care demands of the public and, on the other hand, , offer job stability to specialists who finish their training period.
TEMPORARY REACTIVATION PROGRAM
The objective of this new Human Resources Planning Program is to create a future scenario to alleviate the shortage of specialists and favor the retention of the talent of doctors with recently completed specialized health training, both in Primary Care and Specialized Care.
According to a 2022 report from the Ministry of Health on the supply and need for specialist doctors in Spain, the situation of the health system is marked by the need to incorporate specialized health professionals to respond to the tension generated by the covid-19 pandemic in health services.
In order to respond to this situation, the Ministry establishes two time horizons, in 2028 and 2035, which allow designing and making planning decisions in the short and medium term.
