The BarriODS project, sponsored by the General Directorate for Research and Coordination of Sustainable Development of the Government of the Canary Islands and managed by the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna, has designed a training program on the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the Canarian Agenda 2030.
The training action, which will reach the eight islands, is called ‘The SDGs in your community: local agents of change’. It will take place in different parts of the archipelago between May 31 and June 29 of this year. The populations chosen on each island coincide with those previously selected for the development of the BarriODS plan.
The objectives of the program prepared by the BarriODS project are the following: to provide the participants with basic knowledge about the Canarian Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030, to understand it as a transformation tool towards a sustainable global development model; acquire the basic skills necessary to apply the Agenda at the local level and contribute to its improvement; identify realities, needs, aspirations and specific transformation proposals in neighborhoods or localities aligned with the Canary Islands 2030 Agenda, and favor and facilitate community development processes aligned with the Agenda that encourage participation in local actions.
The aforementioned training will be given free of charge and will be certified by the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna with a total of 20 hours. The plan consists of three face-to-face training sessions in the afternoon, each lasting four hours. In addition, there will be eight hours of learning and service, which can be done in a period of two months after the face-to-face training.
The sessions scheduled according to islands are detailed below: El Pinar, in El Hierro, May 31, June 1 and 2, in the plenary hall of the El Pinar City Council, Calle Patricio Cabrera, 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Playa de Santiago (Alajeró), in La Gomera, June 5, 6 and 7, in the multi-use building Playa de Santiago, calle Santiago Apostol, s/n, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Bañaderos (Arucas), in Gran Canaria, June 13, 14 and 15, in the Bañaderos multipurpose building, Calle Océano Glacial Antártico, 2, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; San José (Breña Baja), in La Palma, June 19, 20 and 21, in the plenary hall of the Breña Baja City Council, Plaza de las Madres, s/n, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Guisguey (Puerto del Rosario), in Fuerteventura, June 13, 14 and 15, at the Guisguey cultural center, Carretera de Guisguey, s/n, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; La Peñita (Tías), in Lanzarote, June 27, 28 and 29, at the Conecta Tías civic center, César Manrique street, 37, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; La Postura (Adeje), in Tenerife, June 27, 28 and 29, at the La Postura Cultural Center, Avenida de la Constitución, 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and Caleta de Sebo, in La Graciosa, with an initial meeting with the associative fabric (date yet to be determined).
