The candidate of Unidas Se Puede (USP) for the Mayor of La Laguna, Rubens Ascanio, has proposed creating the first municipal public cemetery for pets and spaces for the temporary shelter of animals for hospitalized people who lack family support.
These are part of the action program for the next four years that USP has designed in the field of animal welfare, such as the implementation of the Municipal Advisory Council on this matter and a network of support systems to guarantee animal welfare. company, such as new emergency housing resources so that families do not have to be separated from their pets and aid for veterinary expenses.
Rubens Ascanio has defended in a statement that the next term must be “more social, sustainable, inclusive and that all beings, human and sentient” have their rights guaranteed.
And to advance these objectives, the training wants to encourage community participation in the decisions that are made in the town with the first Municipal Council for the Protection and Animal Welfare of the municipality, whose Regulations, promoted by the Department directed by Unidas Se Puede, have been recently approved after a long collaborative design process.
This advisory body will bring together almost 25 representatives of all the groups involved, from protectors to veterinary and legal professionals, to design actions and policies that guarantee better treatment and greater awareness of the protection and welfare of animals, while while preserving the rights of citizenship and public health.
The functions of the Council will include advising on the selection of locations and facilities for some of what will be the main projects aimed at achieving important advances in animal welfare and providing support to families with pets to avoid abandonment or neglect of their pets. companion animals.
Thus, Unidas Se Puede wants to design a line of aid to cover the veterinary expenses of families with fewer resources, in addition to incorporating into the Temporary Municipal Housing Resources Network (RAMT) new shelter spaces for families who lose their home and in those who also contemplate coexistence with their pets.
Measures to which are added the implementation of hourly pet care spaces and temporary foster services for those without family support networks and in the event of hospitalization.
In addition, the training wants to enable adapted housing spaces to attend serious cases of people living on the street and with pets.
Another of the newly created municipal spaces will be bathing spaces with pets on the municipality’s coast and promote the responsible use of fireworks in public events and on certain dates, with awareness campaigns, advancing in formulas such as fireworks without noise or minimizing its effects.
Likewise, it proposes the campaign “La Laguna Animable”, aimed at businesses and taxi drivers, to promote friendly spaces with pets; and put out to tender the Valle Colino service together with the other municipalities of the metropolitan area and the Cabildo de Tenerife.
