The Government of the Canary Islands announces the competition to draw up the basic and execution project of the future health center of Los Cristianos on a municipal site ceded fourteen years ago, together with the Official School of Languages. The tender budget amounts to 105,000 euros, plus 7,350 of IGIC that the Administration assumes, which raises the expense to 112,350 euros. The deadline to complete the drafting of the project is four months and offers can be submitted until June 1.
The mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, describes the event as “historic” and recalls that this health resource is a claim of the municipality and stresses that “this first step is vital for the residents of Los Cristianos to have a medical center in the conditions they demand.”
Mena vindicates the constant struggle and claim of the local government to provide the town with “this vital resource for citizens.” The same as with the Las Galletas Health Center, “which also took a giant step with the visit last April of the Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, to the place where it will be located, in the old Ten shopping center -Bel”.

The Ministry of Health announced in 2008 the imminent construction of this health center and went so far as to ensure that it was included in the Infrastructure Master Plan and that the drafting of the project had been put out to tender. Subsequently, the center formed part of the Canary Islands Health Plan 2005-2010, with the same result.
The Los Cristianos Health Center, which is currently in operation, serves more than 70,000 people, including the residents of that town and Playa de las Américas, as well as tourists and temporary residents in the tourist area of the municipality of Arona.
With the announcement of the public tender by the Canary Islands Health Service, dependent on the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, the final process to carry out the work is activated.
