The La Laguna City Council has been working on different lines of action and programs that will allow us to have, by the year 2026, a municipal public park that is estimated to have around 300 homes, according to current forecasts from the Municipal Housing Society and Services (Muvisa). An estimate that is outside the 169 included by the Government of the Canary Islands in its Housing Plan 2020-2025.
Specifically, according to information from Muvisa, at the beginning of this mandate it was decided to rent the houses that the municipal company had empty and for sale, specifically, in Geneto (42), plus four in Tejina and another three in San Matías.
To this we must add the procedure that was opened last year for the acquisition of homes, initially budgeted at one million euros but which was decided to increase to two, an item that has already allowed the purchase of a building with 9 homes in La Piterita, The purchase and sale of another 6-home building on Eduardo de Roo street, in La Cuesta, is about to be signed, and at least another 5 more homes may be purchased in another of the buildings for which offers have been received, according to data from Muvisa.
In addition, the City Council has also included another item of 4 million in its budget for this year 2023 to continue buying homes that are finished or under construction, which will make it possible to acquire at least 40 more units, according to the estimates that the municipal company is considering. .
To all this we must add the 191 homes whose projects are in the drafting phase in San Matías (71), in the Los Barriales area, in Taco; San Honorato (36), in El Centurión; Tejina (50) and Gracia (29), included in the framework of the European financing for the construction of energy-efficient public protection housing within the European plan of the Next Generation funds, which has an aid of 7,550,000 euros.
24 million
The first three promotions, within the framework of an agreement between the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council, will have a total cost of more than 24 million euros, of which the local Consistory contributes 16 .5 million, as was announced last October during a visit to the 2,200-square-meter municipal plot in the Los Barriales area, in Taco, where the construction of a total of 71 homes is planned.
While the planned 29-home building in Gracia has a direct subsidy of 1 million euros within the State Housing Plan, which the La Laguna City Council complements with another two million to be able to build it.
And to all these promotions we must add, in addition, the Tejina industrialized construction project already announced, which will have a total of 5 homes.
As they recalled from Muvisa, the execution terms of these promotions end in the year 2026. All these specific lines of action make the municipal company anticipate being able to add around 300 homes by 2026, beyond the fact that they can be acquired and incorporating others to increase the municipal public park for affordable rent, among other social programs of the City Council related to housing.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, appreciated that “we have been working to respond to the great need for public housing that exists in the municipality. La Laguna is one of the most attractive cities in the Canary Islands to live in and we want to respond with measures that contribute to meeting this demand, so that any family or person who wants to settle in the municipality has the facilities to do so.
