The Roads area of the Cabildo de Tenerife improves the safety of the TF-42 highway, at the height of La Caleta de Interián, in the municipality of Garachico. These improvements consist of the incorporation of some road markings to reduce the speed of traffic on the aforementioned road; the installation of transversal bands for acoustic and vibration alerts, as well as new road markings that warn users that they must adapt their driving to the special characteristics of the road.
In recent months several accidents have taken place in this section, due to excessive speed. The Signaling and Road Safety Unit of the Highway and Landscape Technical Service carried out a study of the speed of vehicles in which it detected that 30% of them were traveling at more than 60 kilometers per hour, breaking the limited speed.
To deal with this situation, the Cabildo will install transversal alert bands that will act as acoustic and vibrating warning signals that alert drivers of the speed reductions on the road indicated in the vertical signage.
On the other hand, the existence of various intersections with municipal roads, pedestrian crossings, a service station and bus stops also pose a risk to road safety. Due to this, new road markings will also be incorporated to indicate to drivers that they are on a section of the road with special characteristics and that, due to the layout, the environment and the presence of pedestrians, they must adapt their driving and exercise extreme caution. .
The TF-42 starts at the end of the Autopista del Norte (TF-5) highway, in the municipality of Icod de los Vinos and continues through Garachico, Los Silos and Buenavista del Norte, providing services to these three municipalities of Isla Baja, with about 15,000 inhabitants.
