SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 19. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez (CC), has affirmed this Friday that the order of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) that temporarily suspends the catalog of Francoist vestiges of the Government of the Canary Islands demonstrates “political use” what PSOE and Podemos do about the historical memory law.
In statements released by the corporation, it has indicated that “they have tried to offend” Santa Cruz de Tenerife and brand the city and its inhabitants as “Franco” with the aim of doing “harm” but “they have not realized that they were attacking to all chicharreros and chicharreras”.
He has commented that from the consistory they have been warning for many months that the position of the Government of the Canary Islands “was completely unfair to Santa Cruz” and that is why they have requested protection before the courts, which have “given the reason” for us.
“They have not pointed to other municipalities where Francoist vestiges remain, they have been merciless with Santa Cruz and its citizens, and that is something that I cannot and will not tolerate,” he stated.
Bermúdez has detailed that the order insists that it cannot be a catalog of a single municipality and also reminds them that “there is a strategy to be approved.”
“The law cannot be applied at two speeds, fast in municipalities governed by political rivals or slow in municipalities governed by their own,” he stressed, also noting that this case “is yet another example of mistreatment by the government of the socialist party and Podemos to this capital that should end on May 28”.
