It hasn’t lasted long Santa Cruz of Tenerife the first and only dog beach that the municipality had since the end of February, that of acapulcoin valleseco. Mayor, Jose Manuel Bermudezhas signed an order reversing the decree that had been issued by the Environment area, directed by Carlos Tarife, and that allowed the access of dogs to this space, at least until the part of the beach that will be destined for the pets.
In the decree signed today by the mayor, it can be read that after the request of the Platform in Defense of Valleseco that the presence of dogs be prohibited, and that the municipal technicians have endorsed that only a third of the beach in question be allocated for the pets, the decision is made to prohibit the entry of dogs until that delimitation occurs. The area of Environmental Sustainability and Public Services is also urged to carry out a detailed study on alternatives on the municipality’s coast to establish bathing areas enabled for dogs.
The Councilor for the Environment, who has defended the need for Santa Cruz to have spaces for pets, expressed on social networks that “we have once again had zero beaches for our pets in the municipality. If I am mayor of this city, I promise three new bathing points for our pets within a process that I will take to a popular vote following the rules of citizen participation, technical reports and projects that guarantee limited areas for dogs.
