SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 17. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has expressed his wish that the meeting of the Health sectoral table that is expected to be held today Wednesday can conclude with a “closed agreement” that allows an end to the indefinite notice of strike of doctors scheduled for this Friday.
This has been stated in statements to the media, as a result of the medical union CESM Canarias having criticized the “irresponsibility” of the president for not sitting down to negotiate with the group and defending the ‘minimum’ agreement reached in the last sector table.
Ángel Víctor Torres pointed out that the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) will attend today’s sector table with “the signed proposal” and reiterated that “when we sign an agreement, what we have to do is comply with it.” That is why he hopes that today “a closed agreement will come out of that table and that we walk with something that we have committed to it.”
Torres indicated that we are at the end of a legislature and in the remuneration chapter for all SCS personnel “what we want is to move towards the state average and dimension it”, stressing that the Canarian Executive is making a “tremendous commitment” to public health .
Not in vain, he wanted to recall that in these four years the Government of the Canary Islands has increased the health workforce by 7,000 professionals, which means “an economic investment of more than 4,000 million euros in the budgets of the Canary Islands; an important effort, from the everyone’s taxes, to improve a pillar of the welfare state such as health”, he added.
“For all these reasons, I hope that a common position will come out of today’s meeting and we will let those who are negotiating work and respect the signed agreements,” he concluded.
