Juan Ramón Martín Pérez is once again the head of the list of the Independent Association of Arafo-Canary Islands Coalition in the next 28M elections. He announced his withdrawal, but in the end they convinced him to remain the mayoral candidate. “Those who point out that I am running to resign from office are lying, I will be in the City Council for four years,” he vehemently clarifies in an interview with DIARIO DE AVISOS.
-Why is he presenting himself again after announcing his retirement?
“Everything in life, at least it happens to me, needs reflection. It is true that a few months ago that reflection was uneven towards abandonment, but little by little, talking with family, friends and neighbors, that balance began to uneven again towards continuity.
-It is rumored that you present yourself, but in reality you will then leave your minutes, as mayor or councilor, to another colleague.
“It is true that you hear that, but I can affirm emphatically that it is a lie, that is very clear. It is true that I doubted, but, once the decision to present myself was made, I can assure you that I will be there for four years, not one day more or one day less ”.
-Is it easy to be mayor in a small town, where everyone knows each other?
“I am in love with my town, every day I like to learn more about the elderly and I want to continue doing my bit so that each time it is a little better, to feel proud of its agricultural and welcoming character. We are a compact team, made up of very good people and of different ideologies, who are united by the fact that we work for Arafo. We are neither right nor left. In this mandate we have shown that things can be done with consensus, integrating, for example, the three comrades from the PSOE, whom I thank for the work they have done. What happened before in the plenary sessions was not a reflection of the Arafera society”.
-And what are those projects that you have in mind to carry out in the next four years, if you repeat as mayor?
“We have to work so that Arafo has social housing. In addition, we have to launch a new contest for waste collection and street cleaning, which also includes the cleaning of rural roads. We have to build that sports hall that Arafo lacks and, taking advantage of that construction, end the bottleneck in which the Andrés Orozco school is located, with the execution of a bypass. We will continue with the sanitation policy that had already begun, with Playa de Lima, the Carmen neighborhood, La Hidalga or the surroundings of Plaza San Juan Degollado, in addition to moving the library to another place and undertaking works on the roof of the Auditorium, who is already 30 years old. We left the UVI of the adjustment plan and we are already in the plant, with the possibility of being able to invest the remainder. There remains an exciting mandate, with an infinity of projects already drafted”.
-And the Polygon? Is illegal dumping over?
“Today, the industrial water treatment plant is finished and it can be said, after endless meetings between the three municipalities of the Valley, the Cabildo and businessmen, that in the Polígono the water that goes out to the sea is 100% clean.”
