The owners of the El Mojón Partial Plan accept the agreement with the Arona City Council by which the reception and development of the most important urban area of Canary Islands, with almost one million square meters ranging from the border of the Hospital del Sur plot – up the highway – to the first buildings in Los Cristianos. They project buildings for residential, tourist and commercial use with an estimated investment of more than one billion euros. The signing of the document will take place in the coming days for its subsequent public exposure and approval by the Plenary. From there, the process of receiving the urbanization by the Consistory and the process of requesting and granting licenses will begin within a maximum period of two months.
He Governing Council of the El Mojón Partial Plan Compensation Board adopted this agreement last Friday, in a meeting held at the Arona Gran Hotel under the presidency of its owner, Miguel Villarroya, who will sign the agreement with the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena. The document includes the conditions for the reception of this urbanization, which includes two municipal parks, a plot of land for cultural use, in which the Aronero City Council projects the construction of the Arona Arena complex –designed to also develop mass events–, as well as such as the one for the wastewater treatment plant of the partial plan, which the promoters will have to build, among other aspects.
The Arona City Council confirms that it submitted the agreement to the Compensation Board and that it is aware of its approval by this body, which it considers “very important news, because it is a step that unlocks the partial plan, an important investment for Arona, the creation of thousands of jobs and, in addition, the transfer of two public parks and a cultural plot, “explain the sources consulted.
Details of the plan
The El Mojón Partial Plan was definitively approved by agreement of the Urbanism and Environment Commission of the Canary Islands (Cumac) adopted on October 1, 1996. A resolution of the Mayor of Arona on June 29, 1998 definitively approved the project of urbanization of this space. The Compensation project obtained the approval of the Municipal Government Commission on March 16, 2001. In January 2015 (in May there were municipal elections and the pact PSOE-CxA replaced Canarian Coalition as the local government), the City Council and the Compensation Board signed an urban agreement based on the General Planning Plan (PGO), planning that the Supreme Court (TS) annulled five months later. On August 17, 2020, the mayor signed the resolution through which he rejected the receipt of the urbanization works of the plan, giving rise to a property appeal that, after the replacement in the Presidency of the Compensation Board, halted the legal proceedings.

The El Mojón Partial Plan was approved by the Government of the Canary Islands on October 1, 1996. Twenty-six and a half years have elapsed without the execution of the projects being completed.
The El Mojón Partial Plan contemplates green areas that occupied 53,000 square meters and currently reach 90,000. So far, the City Council has granted three licenses in El Mojón. The first, in July 2018, to the company Inversiones Marylanza SL; the second was requested by Spring Hotels (both for the construction of two luxury hotels in Arona) and the third was a modification of the first. The three licenses had all the favorable technical and legal reports. In June 2021, the Council of Government of the Canary Islands authorized, prior to the authorization of the Cabildo de Tenerifethe construction of a four-star hotel in the area of El Mojón.
In addition, the Aronero City Council is aware of the interest in developing constructions for residential and commercial use, among which is an establishment of the German food chain Lidl.
