The Institute of Compulsory Secondary Education (IES) Manuel Martín gonzalezlocated in the urban area of Guía de Isora, develops two reference technological innovation projects in the educational field of Canary Islands. These are the Fablab Isora and the Innovation Workshop, initiatives that contribute to improving the educational methodology of the center and expanding knowledge.
The case of Fablab Isora is a workshop where Vocational Training teachers and students carry out their innovative projects to, through the use of game mechanics in the educational-professional field, improve or innovate resources through the Network of Innovation, belonging to the Vocational Training Coordination Networks of the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands. To do this, the IES Manuel Martín González uses laser technologies, 3D printing, 3D scanning, Augmented and Virtual Reality, etc.
It was in September 2021 when the Gamifica y Vencerás project emerged, “with the aim of disseminating the use of open technologies with its base project, Fablab Isora. Subsequently, during the 2021-2022 academic year, They give the go-ahead to the Innovation Workshop based on the use of plastic resources from the agricultural sector for the production of inputs for gardening and floristry.
For its start-up, the institute acquired the minimum machinery required for plastic processing, such as a crusher, injection molding machine, extruder and ovens, as well as large 3D serial printers. «Both projects become one since they share their raison d’être: to improve the educational methodology of our center, so that students understand that by recycling plastic they can make any part they need and, even, invent new materials,” says Sergio Hernando, director of the IES Manuel Martín González.
This bet of the Isorano institute has called the attention of the educational community. In fact, visits from other academic centers in the municipality have begun, which are received by Basic Vocational Training students, who explain the entire process to the schoolchildren and involve the visiting students.
The name of the institute is due to Manuel Martín González (1905-1988), an illustrious painter from Guía de Isora who is considered one of the best Canarian landscape painters. His work can be seen in the room-museum located on the second floor of the Guía de Isora Department of Culture, on Calle La Vera. The training offer of the center is ESO, Bachelor and Vocational Training.
