The mayor of Arona and socialist candidate for reelection, José Julián Mena, called for “massive support” for the candidacy of the PSOE of Arona with the aim of the municipality reinforcing its character as “capital of the southern region”, with a health , education or roads at the height of other metropolitan areas, such as the one that makes up the Santa Cruz-La Laguna axis. Mena warned that “we already know how he manages the opposition because he has had a majority in the last three years, in which he has done nothing but paralyze key projects and investments to modernize Arona.”
This was pronounced by Mena during the speech that he gave last night at the presentation of the socialist candidacy in the municipality, which was held in the Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Los Cristianos and which was attended by the general secretary of the Tenerife PSOE, Pedro Martín, as well as the Organization Secretary of the Regional Executive Commission and President of the Socialist Group in Parliament, Nira Fierro, and MEP Juan Fernando López Aguilar.
The socialist candidate asked to fill the polls with “votes and roses” as the only way for the southern region and the municipality to have a strong voice on the island as a whole to achieve objectives such as a top-level public hospital, health centers in Las Galletas and Los Cristianos, the construction of public housing or the achievement of four new educational centers in Los Cristianos, Cho, El Fraile and the suburban area, as requested by the municipal government to the Education Council of the Government of the Canary Islands.
In addition, he warned that “a few” want a “weak Arona, with multi-party pacts and shared mayoralties to turn the clock back eight years and return to the endemic evil of aronero politics, in which a minority imposes its interests on the majority ”, a situation that “we have experienced in the last three years, in which the opposition has united its votes and has had a large majority”.
“Some want Arona to go back years. To the past of multi-party pacts, of shared mayoralties… Why? Because a weak political power is the best scenario for those who seek to do things illegally, ”she emphasized.
“Throughout my life I have fought to put an end to an endemic evil of the aronera policy. It was always said that in Arona the people were not in charge, but some interests. And I have stood up to whoever was necessary, even with some who were colleagues, to defend all the neighbors, ”said the PSOE candidate for Mayor of Arona.
