The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared the situation pre-alert for strong gusts of wind (yellow warning risk) this friday in Canary Islands. The statement for this worsening of the weather in the Canary Islands has entered effective at 6:00 p.m. on Friday until further notice.
The validity of the declaration extends to the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for northeasterly wind with strong intervals and occasional very strong gusts on exposed slopes, mainly on the northwest and southeast slopes of the westernmost islands and Gran Canaria, as well as in the southern midlands and exposed peaks of the islands of El Hierro, La Gomera, La Palma and Gran Canaria.
On the other hand, the Territorial Delegation of the Meteorology Statal Agency (Aemet) in the Canary Islands has predicted for Saturday moderate to strong northeast wind and informs of the yellow warning in force in El Hierro, La Gomera, the Metropolitan Area and the southeast of Tenerifeand in summits, southeast and west of Gran Canaria.
The gusts will be more frequent and intense during the night hours, especially in the last hours when the threshold will pass from 70 to 80 kilometers per hour in La Gomera and El Hierro. In addition to the warning areas, locally very strong gusts are not ruled out in Tenerife (central peaks and extreme northwest), La Palma (peaks and extreme southeast and northwest) and in Lanzarote, occasionally during central hours in inland areas.
The skies will be cloudy this Saturday in the north of the most mountainous islands, where it is expected weak rainfallas in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The temperatures will rise in the western islands and as for the state of the sea, the Aemet announces north and northeast wind of force 3 or 4, 4 or 5 and 5 or 6 offshore, swell, swell or strong swell, and variable winds in the south and west coasts of the islands with breezes, rippled seas or swells. Northwest swell is expected with waves of one to two meters.
