The Cabildo de Tenerife and the Red Cross have launched a new day center in Cross port for the purpose of meeting the basic needs of the homeless in the northern part of the island and offer them advice in their socio-labour integration process.
The center will be open every day from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. They have also set up a social emergency service that distributes warm clothing and hot food every night in collaboration with local volunteers.
During the visit to the new resource, the Island Councilor for Social Action, Marián Franquet, highlighted the importance of offering a service to those people in a situation of severe exclusion. In addition to providing immediate help to improve their quality of life, they are offered information, guidance and support to achieve their integration into society.
Franquet explained that these new resources are the result of coordinated work between the Cabildo, social entities and the rest of the public administrations to jointly address the problem of homelessness throughout the island of Tenerife.
The center is attended by a social worker, a social integrator and a psychologist, as well as a project manager who will be in charge of coordinating the care and services provided in the centers opened by both entities. It provides breakfast, personal hygiene, laundry and wardrobe services, and has some beds to offer accommodation in the event of a meteorological emergency or adverse phenomenon. In addition, users will be oriented on support programs and tools to access a job and meet their social needs.
The mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Marco González, thanked the involvement of the Cabildo and the dedication of the Red Cross to make this resource a reality that offers, in addition to personalized attention to the homeless, an opportunity and hope for a better life and with more tools of all kinds thanks to the professionals and Red Cross volunteers to look to the future with optimism.
This center in Puerto de la Cruz joins the day care resource opened in La Laguna by the Red Cross, the Cabildo and the City Council to care for homeless people in the metropolitan area.
