Consolidated as the most important academy competition in the Canary Islands, this Saturday, May 6, the V Rafa Cabrera Bello Youth Circuit starts at the Real Club de Golf de Tenerife. Promoted by the best Canarian golfer in history and the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas, the most ambitious edition of the circuit to date begins, with up to 6 tournaments to be played on 3 islands.
In this first tournament in the El Peñón field, the successors of Keira González and Francisco Luis de Bethencourt, Scratch winners of the last edition, will begin to be elucidated.
In addition to the RCG de Tenerife, the Rafa Cabrera Bello Circuit will be completed with tests in maspalomas Golf, May 28; at the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas, on July 24; Costa Teguise Golf and Lanzarote Golf, on September 9 and 10; meloneras Golf, on October 1; and the grand final, as every year at the dean club of Spanish golf, in December.
Rafa Cabrera is “very excited and eager for a new edition of the Circuit to begin. After overcoming the hard years of the pandemic, we have managed to establish ourselves and be a reference in Canarian youth golf.” “I would like the circuit to be consolidated as a platform where young people can enjoy the competition, but that it also serves as part of their training as athletes and as people. I think that together we have done a great job that I hope will be reflected in this fifth edition that again this year grows a little more in the number of events”, said the player from Gran Canaria.
Although 7 golf courses are visited, there will be six official tests, since the two days held in Lanzarote on the weekend of September 9 and 10 will score as a single test, although it will have a higher score as it becomes an appointment with 36 holes.
The categories to be played will once again be Sub’21, Infantil, Alevín and Benjamín; For this last category there is no handicap limitation and they will play 9 holes under the Stableford modality, except in the tests that coincide with those of the Federation, in which they will have to have a minimum handicap of 36 and will play under the 9-hole Stroke Play modality.
The Rafa Cabrera Bello Circuit will have a Scratch ranking and a Handicap ranking, by categories differentiated by gender. The position will be established with the sum of points from the 4 best tests, with the final, to be held in December at the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas, an additional score of 50%.
In addition, an Absolute Scratch ranking will be established, differentiated by gender for the 3 18-hole categories, whose winners will inscribe their name in the circuit trophy and receive a special prize, as always, from the great Rafa Cabrera Bello in the final test.
