The PSOE of Buenavista del Norte denounces that the City Council has to return 254,000 euros of aid received, after allowing the deadline to apply for the extension of three grants to improve its public lighting and photovoltaic installations. These three grants were intended for public lighting in Los Cabildos, the area of La Constitución avenue, lighting in the Los Carrizales neighborhood, in the Teno Rural Park, and photovoltaic solar installations in the City Hall and the Occupational Center.
“This sum -as explained by Eva García, municipal spokesperson for the PSOE- supposes another important economic loss for Buenavista, whose local government (SSP and CCC) returned 468,000 euros in March, -not counting late-payment interest- that were destined for the completion of of the Casa de Los Mayores, because the consistory did not carry out the works within the agreed period, according to municipal and island documents”.
The spokesperson for the municipal socialist group requested in writing from the mayor, Antonio José González Fortes (Sí se puede), an explanation of why the extension was not requested within the corresponding period. She also requested that they be informed of the actions to be carried out to carry out these actions “so important for our municipality.”
He also requested that they be informed if this return has been communicated to the residents of the affected neighborhoods, including the residents of Los Carrizales who had been informed of the prompt implementation of the lighting improvements. “The socialist group regrets that Buenavista is going to suffer the consequences of the incompetence of the local government,” said García, who pointed out that the City Council requested to extend the term in January 2023, after the term to request extensions expired, according to the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE).
The subsidies were awarded to the City Council in November 2021, with a maximum period of one year to formalize the contracts for the execution of the works, according to the IDAE.
The three grants had been granted by IDAE, an organization attached to the Ministry for Ecological Transition, and the European Regional Development Fund (Feder). According to the PSOE, the IDAE ordered the return of the subsidies between February and March, and the mayor of the municipality signed their return on April 19, 2023, according to documents from the Buenavista del Norte City Council.
