The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has informed this Thursday of the obtaining of sixty awards Blue Flag in the 2023 edition. From them, 56 correspond to beaches and four to marinas. In Canary Islandsthe Blue Flag initiative is managed with the collaboration of the Ministry of Health, through the General Directorate of Public Health of the Canary Islands Health Service.
Blue Flag is an annual award and an environmental quality certification system developed by the FEE (Federation of Environmental Education). In Spain, he coordinates this initiative ADEAC (Association for Environmental and Consumer Education).
It distinguishes those beaches and marinas that meet the criteria of excellence in bathing water quality, comply with environmental regulations, and have adequate health and safety infrastructure to guarantee the health and safety of their users.

The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, is satisfied with the revalidation -for the sixth consecutive year- of the coveted Blue Flag award for El Reducto beachwhich means having a beach in the capital of the island that meets a series of qualities such as excellence, safety and quality.
The blue flag 2023/2024 will begin to wave in this capital enclave, according to the delegate councilor for Beaches, Ángela Hernández, “as soon as we are notified of the delivery.”
It should be noted that the work carried out by the local Administration, through the Beach Management Committee, the surveillance, rescue and first aid service implemented and, thanks to the civility of the users, have made the Arrecife coastline one of the best business cards in the city.
The European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), coordinated in Spain by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), is in charge of evaluating beaches and ports in search of the excellence of their waters, compliance with specific regulations on environment and the necessary health and safety infrastructure for users. To do so, they are based on their environmental values and on the correct use of this space by residents and tourists.
