The Cabildo de La Gomera concludes this week the Book Day program with a literary festival that, on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 May, will offer different events such as talks, interviews with writers, round tables, author signing, as well as a Tribute to the Tenerife writer Rafael Arozarena.
Thus, today, Tuesday, the carousel of events will begin, which will take place in the Plenary Hall of the Island Council, starting at 6:00 p.m. At 6:15 p.m., a tribute will be paid to the writer Rafael Arozarena on the occasion of the first centenary of his birth. During this tribute, Cecilia Domínguez and Elsa López will jointly read a poem and a text by the author born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Later, at 6:45 p.m., Elsa López, who was presented with the 2022 Canarias Prize for Literature, will offer a talk with a subsequent interview with the writer and a gathering with the audience.
Later, starting at 7:45 p.m., the trailer for the book ‘The Club of Immortals’ will begin. Chronicle of an awakening’, by Josefina Palenzuela, winner of the 2021 Audi Future Books Award from Grupo Planeta, and who obtained an Honorable Mention at the International Latino Book Awards in the United States. To end the day on Tuesday, at 8:00 p.m., José Zoilo, Pozuelo de Alarcón Historical Novel Prize winner and Edhasa 2023 Prize winner, will present his work and then give an interview.
For Wednesday, May 3, the authors Cecilia Domínguez, Pilar Torres, Josefina Palenzuela, José Zoilo, and Elsa López will sign copies of their works in the Plaza de la Constitución, starting at 12:30 p.m., in addition to granting interviews to the media . Likewise, from 6:00 p.m., the author Pilar Torres, a finalist for the 2021 Nadal Award, will talk about her work and chat with the attendees, in the same way that she will offer an interview in the Plenary Hall.
Starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Plenary Hall of the island institution, a round table will be held under the slogan ‘Reading in the Canary Islands’, which will address various topics such as education, publishing, marketing, dissemination and distribution. The attending authors will be José Zoilo, Pilar Torres, Elsa López, Cecilia Domínguez and Josefina Palenzuela, with the presence of the editor Leopoldo Ayose Suárez Regalado. To end this literary festival, starting at 8:00 p.m., Cecilia Domínguez, 2015 Canarias Prize for Literature, will give an interview and hold a gathering.
