More of 2,500 minors participate each school year in the extracurricular activities program organized by the Town Hall of La Orotava in the 13 public schools of the municipality. With an annual budget that around 250,000 eurosthis municipal initiative said goodbye on Sunday in the Quiquirá pavilion with the traditional exhibition of the different sports and artistic modalities that have been worked on in recent months. Some 500 boys and girls from these centersthey showed part of what they had learned before the public that filled the stands.
He villero town hall develops the program of extracurricular activities, through the Department of Education directly directed by the mayor, Francisco Linares (CC). This initiative celebrates 26 years in which it has offered “a complete municipal plan of complementary activities to regulated training that, in addition to consolidating over time, has become a benchmark on the island of Tenerife and in the rest of the Canary Islands», as stressed by the nationalist president.
He town council annually allocates a game that around 250,000 euros in order to offer a wide program of training, sports and leisure activities aimed at occupying the free time of schoolchildren after the end of the school day. From the local institution, the municipal commitment “for education” stands out, as well as “the constant commitment to carry out projects and actions in this matter, directed, especially, to the schools and educational centers of the municipality.” For the villero government, “aid is also significant, such as those included in the Municipal Scholarship Planfrom which more than 700 students benefit every year, or the aid to the Associations of Mothers and Fathers of Students (Ampas) ».
Collaboration of the Ampas
In the exhibition held last Sunday, also organized by the Department of Education and the Ampas of the municipal schools, more than half a thousand students participated representing all those who benefit annually from this plan. Once again, representatives of the 13 public centers of the municipality attended: the schools of Aguamansa, Domínguez Alfonso, Infanta Elena, Inocencio Sosa Hernández, La Luz, Leoncio Estévez Luis, Manuel de Falla, Our Lady of the Conception, Ramón y Cajal, Saint Augustine, Saint Teresa of Jesus, Saint Thomas Aquinas and Víctor Rodríguez Jiménezfrom the Benijos neighborhood.

Extracurricular activities are carried out by the company Ocide in the aforementioned public schools in the municipality and in sports centers such as the Quiquirá and Celestino Hernández pavilions, or the athletics track and soccer field of El Mayorazgo.
In every public school the town of La Orotava Five or six activities are offered, which are taught at times ranging from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
