Teodoro Sosa: «When I work as a councilor I take off the jacket of the mayor of Gáldar»
Teodoro Sosa (1975) was elected mayor of the Gáldar City Council in 2007, holding office until today. He is running for re-election for a fifth term for the Rural Nationalist Bloc (BNR) -Nueva Canarias. During the last stage he has been advisor to the Presidency of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, where he now returns to be part of his party lists with number two.
He has made a great effort in these four years to make himself known outside the North as advisor to the Presidency, while continuing as mayor. Has not valued the work to head the list to the Cabildo?
Not at all. I was clear. From the beginning I said that I was at the disposal of our president. Gran Canaria has an asset in Antonio Morales and I have learned from him in these four years. Politics is a long-distance race. I still have to close a stage in Gáldar. And, in this case, I am being recognized by being vice president with him. Even, on a personal level, it gives peace of mind to be next to a person who has Gran Canaria as his head and heart, and who has a model island. I have a lot to learn.
Does NC have generational relief? Why have they kept the same faces for decades? Is it a matter of surveys?
Someone could say the same about me in Gáldar, that I have been here for 16 years. But we have focused on a complex moment, with a pandemic, the inflationary and economic crisis, the volcano… Is it time to make changes? It is time for the consolidation of people in positions and management responsibility. Is everyone qualified to go out in a crisis situation? People with leadership are needed to move this society forward. We are not yet seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. That is why there are people who, with economic and management rigor, have to continue at the head of the Administrations. If they were based on polls, there were people who would lead many candidacies. It must be a matter of experience and renewal.
