The plenary session of the Cabildo de Tenerife has approved this Friday a modification of the 2023 budget that includes an additional item of four million euros to improve the quality of residential and daytime services provided to people in a situation of dependency on the island through third sector entities.
The island president, Pedro Martín, explains that with this measure, the Cabildo de Tenerife contributes to updating the prices of the places included in the Dependency Agreement 2021-2023 that it maintains with the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands with the purpose of attending and giving a Adequate response to the extra costs per place and day derived from the increase in inflation, as well as from the updating of the salaries of the personnel of the entities that provide these services.
Specifically, it is about guaranteeing that the users of the socio-sanitary centers are cared for in the best conditions.
In this sense, Pedro Martín highlights the work and dedication of the third sector entities that manage the nursing homes and dependency, whose work is essential to meet the demand for social and health care on the island in quality conditions.
For her part, the third vice-president and counselor for Social Action, Marián Franquet, explained that the increase in funding from the Dependency Agreement will allow third-sector entities to face the rise in general maintenance and management costs (electricity, water, food) of the centers and attend to the updating of the salaries of their staff.
The island councilor also highlights that, within the increase in the budget approved this Friday, an item is included for the first time to reinforce the transport service to day centers, increasing the available budget by 10%, a service which up to now were paid for exclusively by the Autonomous Community.
To the four million euros of the Cabildo de Tenerife, we must add the budget that the Government of the Canary Islands is going to inject to face the increase in prices per square and day, and whose amount amounts to 12 million euros for the entire archipelago, collects a note from the council
The collaboration between both institutions will allow the financing of the Dependency Agreement for the island of Tenerife to be increased by 9 million euros, which will go from 107.5 million euros to 116.6 million.
