These measures will be applied in the next three months, as announced by the director of the Canarian Health ServiceElizabeth Hernández, to representatives of the Platform for the Public Hospital of the South of Tenerifeto whom he presented the functional plan to expand the hospital complex as steps to make it equal to the two hospitals in the Metropolitan area, as announced last January.

Hiring close to twenty professionals It will reinforce the services, which includes expanding the 24-hour computed tomography (CT) service, for which Health will hire three specialist radiodiagnostic technicians (TER), a nurse and a nursing assistant. The increase in surgical activity will be reinforced with the hiring of two anesthetists, six nursing assistants and an orderly. Likewise, the hours of the Day Hospital will expand its activity, a service that will have three more nurses and a nursing assistant.

Elizabeth Hernández explained that the functional plan of the southern hospital, prepared and approved by the General Directorate of Assistance Programs of the Canary Islands Health Service, will allow the portfolio of Specialized Care services to be expanded for the South-Southwest area of ​​Tenerife, through the remodeling works that are planned. These are works that will allow the healthcare provision of this hospital infrastructure to be adapted to current healthcare needs.

The functional plan contemplates incorporate new admission and reception areaexpand the gynecological-obstetric surgical block and a post-anesthesia recovery area, establishing new circuits for surgery with and without admission, as well as day hospitals.

Care units with a high degree of specialization will be incorporated, such as the Intensive Care Unit, the Hemodialysis Unit, Palliative Care, the Endoscopy Service and the Electromedicine Service. It is also planned to develop a teaching and continuing training area for the hospital complex. With this new extension, it will be necessary to resize services that are already provided but which, due to the area they occupy or the current location, are not expected to cover future needs. In this case there are laboratories, the pharmacy, sterilization, warehouses and maintenance.

The director of the SCS also informed the Platform that, once the General Directorate of Assistance Programs The new functional plan has been authorized, the tender for the project drafting contract is being prepared.

On January 25, the presidents of the Government of the Canary Islands and the council, Angel Victor Torres and Pedro Martín, respectively, announced that the Hospital del Sur will be the third reference in Tenerife with an investment of 40 million euros to expand it by 20,000 square meters, up to 47,000; double the current 130 hospital beds and provide it with more health services and specialties.
