La Orotava once again prohibits electoral propaganda in the historic center

The last ordinary plenary session of the Town Hall of La Orotava in this term 2019-2023 unanimously approved by the groups that make up the municipal corporation (CC, PSOE, Assembly for La Orotava and PP) the prohibition of the placement of posters and any type of propaganda facing the municipal elections in all the perimeter that collects the Special Hull Plan (PEC)both in the Villa de Abajo and in the Villa de Arriba.

This is the third electoral call in which this decision is made to respect the town’s historic center, which means for the villero government (CC) “an example among the municipalities of Canary Islands with spaces with similar characteristics and that are visited by thousands of people every day. In this way it is kept clean and offers a good image to neighbors and visitors.”.

No posters or banners may be placed on lampposts or walls or in air spacesand neither use screens for electoral propaganda, and this can only be placed on the panels authorized for it by the Electoral Board where all the political parties to attend these elections.

In addition, this last ordinary plenary session, with 31 points that were approved mostly unanimously, served for the farewell of the corporation of the four councilors who do not appear in the next municipal elections. All the spokespersons, in their farewell speeches for the mandate, agreed that it has been a very hard and complicated four years, mainly due to the situation generated by the pandemic, when the acronyms were put aside and efforts were joined to be able to serve the neighbors, companies and groups. They also agreed on the thanks to the colleagues and all the staff of the town hall, as well as three words that summarize this mandate in the villera corporation: respect, debate and consensus.

the aedile Narciso Perez valued his gratifying experience as CC spokesman and thanked the exemplary work of the municipal Corporation, especially in the most difficult and uncertain moments, the way of acting, cordiality, agreements and everything being an example for many municipalities. The spokesperson of the PSOE, Maria Jesus Alonso, pointed out that despite the logical discrepancies, his group has done a serious and responsible job to add, always fulfilling the work of monitoring and defending and wanting the best for the residents of the Villa. He highlighted the work of the previous spokesman Manuel gonzalezto which it happened, and recognized the work of the current comrades and, especially, of Víctor Luis who, after 16 years as a socialist reference point, leaves politics aside.

The Assembly spokesperson for La Orotava, Aida Salazar, stressed how complicated the mandate has been, but assured that it has been four years of enthusiasm, respect and work contributing a grain of sand to achieve a better municipality: more just, egalitarian, sustainable and supportive. Above the political differences, he said that respect and camaraderie have always prevailed, building a better municipality with all the ideas and contributions. He also made special mention of the four colleagues who will not continue in municipal politics, his partner Manolo and his former partner Raúl. And warm words and mutual complicity with the partner of the PP, Patricia Fernández, despite the great political differences.

The councilor of the Popular Party, Patricia Fernandez, made the longest intervention for intervening as a spokesperson and saying goodbye as a councilor. Despite her emotional tone, she pointed out several criticisms and humorous anecdotes. She also made a tour of all the political groups and the councilors who are also saying goodbye. She appreciated the support she has received from everyone and “especially from colleagues like Aida, Víctor, Narciso, David, Francisco…”. He also appreciated that when they tried to damage his image from the outside, no political party used this against him or made political gain from it, which shows that class, education and respect have prevailed in this government without demagogy and cheap noise, “something that other town halls should copy”.

The mayor of the PSOE, Victor Luis Gonzalez, expressed his gratitude to all party colleagues, corporation, institution staff and especially the family. “There are 16 years as a councilor and 200 plenary sessions in this period, in which all the villeros are represented to improve their lives; each group from their perspective and in an exemplary manner, working to reach the maximum agreements for the good of the municipality, since something fundamental in politics is applied, such as applying common sense, and it is done here”, he stressed. Along these lines, he stressed that they have been a constructive opposition and that everyone has learned from each other.

The nationalist mayor Louis Hernandezdespite the fact that he does not lavish himself too much on his public interventions, he expressed his gratitude to everyone for their camaraderie, and asserted that he has worked with great enthusiasm and determination during these 16 years as a councilor, which culminates when the time has come for him to retire.

Lima hopes that it is not a final goodbye

The concilor Anthony Lima He pointed out that he hopes that it is not a goodbye but a see you later, since at the moment he cannot continue for professional reasons. He valued the work of all the party colleagues and the corporation, thanking that, despite the differences, there has always been cordiality and work has been done in favor of the municipality. He also dedicated a few words to his family and colleagues from the Sports area and council staff.

Antonio Lima (CC) The day


Mayor, Francisco Linares, recognized that it has been the most complex mandate of all, with great uncertainty, but despite this the entire corporation “has set an example in the Canary Islands”, working beyond the initials to launch a reactivation plan and help all the neighbors, with 90% of agreements reached unanimously, something that is not accidental but the result of work, debate, dialogue and consensus”. Everyone’s support was fundamental; The contribution of the opposition has been exemplary and to be appreciated, “because we did not win, wins the town of La Orotava”. He also highlighted the capacity, behavior and values ​​of the four councilors who are not running in the next municipal elections, to whom he wishes them the best in their new stages.
