SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Francisco García Rodríguez will take office as rector of the University of La Laguna in a ceremony to be held this Thursday at 9:00 am in the Auditorium, to which the main civil, academic and military authorities of the Canary Islands have already confirmed their attendance.
The act will be led by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, who will be in charge of taking the oath and investing Francisco García after reading the mandatory agreement by the general secretary of the regional Executive, Cándida Hernández.
The ceremony is publicly accessible until full capacity is reached and will also be broadcast live through the institutional website. Up to now, the Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Román Rodríguez; the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín; the mayor of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez; the rector of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Lluís Serra; among other authorities.
The inauguration of the rector will be the first appointment of the new management team of the academic center, which will continue at 12:00 on the same day with the appointment of the general secretary, Juan Antonio García García, in an act in the Rector’s Office of the educational institution . Those who will hold the title of vice-rectorate that will manage the different areas of government will do so on Tuesday, May 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Aula Magna of the Central Building.
INVESTMENT CEREMONY
The act will be opened by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, who will give way to the reading of the decree of the Presidency of the Autonomous Executive by means of which this rectoral appointment is produced.
Next, Francisco García will read the oath or promise, sign the document and receive from the hands of the outgoing rector, Rosa Aguilar Chinea, the ring, medal and baton.
Once invested, he will give his first speech in office, after which it will be the President of the Government of the Canary Islands who will address the audience and close the act, before the university and regional anthems are played.
