Around a thousand people traveled the Camino del Hermano Pedro this Saturdayof which some 600 left from Vilaflor and the rest, from different points of Abona granadilla, such as the town, Charco del Pino, San Isidro and El Médano. This 16th edition of the route was organized by the town halls of both Chasneros municipalities, with the collaboration of AENA, Montaña para Todos (MPT) and volunteers from the religious space, among others.
During five hours and with very good weather throughout the day, the walker traveled through a space loaded with elements of natural and cultural heritage, as well as a large number of terraces, nateros and fruit orchards, as well as unique flora with summit scrub, pine forest , tabaibal-cardonal and coastal scrub.
The Way of Brother Pedro not only it is a way of transhumance that extends between the municipalities of Vilaflor and Granadilla de Abona, but is framed in a set of traditional pathsSome of them are even reflected in historical maps from the 18th and 11th centuries, this being the route that Hermano Pedro traveled to move with his flock.
After the mass, which began at 6:30 a.m., 1,500 meters above sea level began the 19-kilometre route which is a symbol of the collective memory of the people of the South region and which unites history, spirituality, landscape and culture. Almost five hours later, the first pilgrims arrived at the center of veneration in honor of Saint Brother Pedro de Betancourt: the Cave located near the head of the airport.
