Among the solutions to the mobility problem in the south of the Island and to the traffic saturation affecting Los Cristianos, the construction of the Interchange is mentioned. The President of the Council of Tenerife, Pedro Martín announced yesterday in Arona that the next mandate will go ahead with the bidding for this infrastructure. The municipality “cannot bear the lack of a space that will improve mobility throughout the South region any longer.”
Pedro Martín advanced the intention of the Cabildo to call the tender for these works during this year. “The municipality of Arona and, especially, the town of Los Cristianos, cannot continue with parked buses as if the street were a station,” reflected the president. To promote the project, the administrations applied the expropriation procedure of the necessary land with an investment of more than six million euros. Martín assured that the Cabildo is already in a position to call the contest to face this work throughout this year.
For the president of the Island Corporation, what is relevant is that “we already have around 8,000 square meters of land located at the entrance to Los Cristianos to solve a problem that is traffic, access to the public transport service and, also parking.
The forecast is that the Los Cristianos Interchange will have three floors with parking capacity for 200 vehicles, as well as 18 docks for buses, “which will make this facility one of the most important in the entire South region.”defended Pedro Martín yesterday during a visit to the area where this public facility will be located.
“Its commissioning will provide a solution to the transfer of buses at the Los Cristianos exit, with the consequent relief for traffic in the area,” he added.
The mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, agreed that for his municipality “it is essential” to have the Los Cristianos Transport Interchange. This space “will serve to eliminate the current preferential bus stop, which is an obstacle to mobility in the center of the city. Also, because it will be one of the key infrastructures in the remodeling of Chayofita Avenue, where we foresee a wide pedestrian boulevard with underground traffic.”
