The College of Civil Engineers, Canals and Ports has warned this Friday that a viable solution for the maritime connection of the Green Islands is still pending, and they have indicated that at Easter the serious traffic problem in the port of The Christians (Tenerife).
In a statement, the College of Civil, Canal and Port Engineers (ICCP) indicates that in October 2021 it presented a report with four alternatives for connecting the green islands with Tenerife: a connection through the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife; for that of Granadilla; improve the one in Los Cristianos and the urban exit roads to the TF-1 and 4 and build the one in Fonsalía.
That month, the Government of the Canary Islands commissioned AIReF, the two Canarian public universities and their technicians to analyze these alternatives.
This study should be completed in the first quarter of 2022, but a year later it is still not being developed, or at least not being made public, adds the ICCP.
This lack of reaction to the problem “only aggravates the issue”, since to carry out works of this type it takes many years from the time the projects are commissioned until the works come into service, criticizes the Professional Association.
The aforementioned report ruled out the first two options for mainly economic and operational reasons, since greater distances imply longer navigation times and costs, and proposed as the first valid alternative the construction of a new dock in Los Cristianos that would allow shipping companies to operate with greater security, as well as decongesting the dock at peak vehicle disembarkation hours.
The ICPCP points out that the port of Los Cristianos has deficiencies in the number and dimensions of the only two ferry berths it has, since the lengths of some ships that operate in the port are greater than the length of the docks.
This obliges shipping companies to exercise extreme caution in berthing and port exit maneuvers, when both are operating simultaneously.
Regardless, the report proposed addressing the problems of ordinary traffic on Avenida Chayofita, which would facilitate access to the TF-1 for traffic originating from and destined for the port.
In addition, the report showed that this last traffic was not the cause of the traffic jams, but the one affected by them.
Likewise, the report of the ICCP College also analyzed the Fonsalía alternative and considers that, if this solution is chosen, a new project should be processed based on the principle of sustainable development, whose dimensions are strictly necessary for the objective set. intends to achieve.
Along these lines, it was recommended to eliminate the fishing dock, the cruise dock-dock and the sports dock from the current project.
Regarding the latter, the report considered that it could be developed by private initiative, if it were technically, economically and environmentally viable.
In addition, it was also pointed out that the demand for sport berths could be covered with the transformation of the port of Los Cristianos.
Finally, the report concluded that sooner or later one of the two valid options proposed will have to be faced, or alternatively continue to use the port of Los Cristianos indefinitely until its total collapse.
“The CICCP remains at the disposal of the administrations for whatever they consider we can contribute to solving this problem,” says Luis Pintor, dean of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Demarcation of the College.
This shows the complete idiocy of planning in Los Cristianos. The resort is already full of long term parked cars, mobile homes etc. Every day sees traffic jams throughout Los Cristianos, the TF1 is one ling traffic jam , South in the morning from 8.30, North from 3.pm in the afternoon. Constant accidents between Las Americas and Las Chafiras. Las Chafiras now a no go area for taxis. Constant problems with traffic from Los Cristianos port, IT SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN, NOT EXPANDED.
These people just show the idiocy of letting office paper pushers decide on these problems. We are going to have the Erjos tunnel finished with THOUSANDS MORE CARS AND LORRIES trying to get into the SOUTH of TENERIFE We all know the situation is ridiculous, but TOURISM must be expanded, sod the residents, let the hoteliers and bankers( and probably politicians) make more money.
