The government group (CC-PP) in the Los Silos City Council has decided to request a provisional permit from the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning to open the pool during the summer months; Specifically, from June to September 30.

This was confirmed to this newspaper by the mayoress, Macarena Fuentes, who added that the objective is to find a solution that avoids demolishing essential facilities for the municipality and Isla Baja, while Costas resolves a file that has been going on for almost four years in which the pool has been closed, because the previous government (PSOE) did not request the concession on time. The same request was made when works were carried out on the premises at the request of the state department, despite the fact that the concession had expired; therefore, the councilor believes that it cannot be denied. “The City Council asks that while this case is being resolved, it gives us permission and then in October we sit down again to talk. Now the ball is in Costas’ court, ”she maintains.

The land where the pool is located is in the maritime-terrestrial public domain and, therefore, belongs to Costas. Since 2019, the municipal Executive began a fight to try to save it, which is still going on and has encountered many bureaucratic obstacles, by passing the powers from Madrid to the Government of the Canary Islands. In this sense, the councilor specifies that in May 2022 the Consistory answered the last request and sent the documentation protesting the allegations accompanied by a “complete report”. On the 4th of that same month, the state department had to answer all these letters, “but it never did,” she says.

With the transfer of powers, in September they sent her to speak with the regional councilor José Antonio Valbuena, who told her to wait for the transfer to take effect. Since January 2023, she has been requesting a meeting with him.

“The answer they give us is that the files that Costas opens in Madrid are closed by Madrid. So, what benefits does the Canary Islands have with the transfer of powers that was negotiated? ”, She asks herself.

Not satisfied, the local government sent another letter to the Presidency of the Government and the response was exactly the same as the first time: they referred it to the department of Valbuena, “but later they took away my appointment and we are still waiting here.”

Macarena Fuentes is clear that she cannot go to court “because the matter is going to become entrenched and we will have worse consequences until a judge defines whether or not the City Council agrees.”

Finally, remember that “there have been two robberies in a building that belongs to Costas, but nobody is watching it, except the City Council, and inside there is a significant financial investment.”
