The announcement made by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, to release 50,000 homes from Sareb, the so-called bad bank, to allocate them to social rental has made all the autonomous communities and municipalities take out the calculator to see how many of these houses they could correspond.
In Santa Cruz, the number is negligible, since, according to the mayor of the capital, José Manuel Bermúdez, there are only 18.
“What for the socialist government is the great announcement to solve the housing problem in Spain, it turns out that in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Sareb has 18 homes available. Therefore, it is a measure that I do not doubt that in other capitals it can have an effect, but of course here it will have very little effect ”. Even so, “I would be happy if in the next four years those 18 homes can be put up for social rent.”
Bermúdez also pointed out that it will be necessary to see what state these houses are in and if they are not occupied, something very common among the apartments that are owned by the bad bank.
As for the second announcement, that of the construction or reform of another 40,000 social houses, “we will be very attentive to see how many can correspond to Santa Cruz, although we, in the next four years, are going to start or finish 400 houses.”
