El Sauzal renews its health center after 16 years of waiting

The municipality of the willow has been waiting since 2007 for the construction of a new health center in the center of this town, where almost 9,000 inhabitants reside. After 15 years of vicissitudes, the work on the new health building is facing its final stretch, in the absence of equipment, furniture and connection to some basic services. The mayor of Sauzalero, Mariano Perez (CC)does not hide his satisfaction at seeing that the municipality finally has a “broad and bright” health center, which will make it possible to have a space in better conditions for patients and for the work of healthcare professionals Canarian Health Service (SCS).

“The work is finished and only a few more details are missing which are paperwork so that the center will soon be a reality for everyone. Now it only remains for the Government of the Canary Islands put it into operation, ”stresses the nationalist president Mariano Pérez.

«The need for this health center already appeared in our 2007 electoral program and until now it had not been able to come true. First came the 2008 crisiswhich forced the funds of the Government of the Canary Islands They will focus more on people than on infrastructure. Once that crisis was overcome, the project had to be modified because had become obsolete» recalls Perez.

The work was awarded before 2020, but the covid-19 pandemic It put a new brake on the work and forced the stoppage of the work. Pérez points out that “a little over a year ago the last part of the project was reactivated and it has already come out of the jerk, for which we are very satisfied. The work has turned out very well and, in the absence of the opening date being specified, we can already say that the helmet of El Sauzal finally has its new health center».

almost a year stopped

In December 2021, the construction work on the new health center in the urban area resumed after almost a year of standstill to update the project and adapt it to some regulatory changes. The works were executed then around 40%. The works were initially awarded by €851,100 to the company Luis Olano Construcciones SL

The new building was built in a plot ceded by the El Sauzal Town Hall in an old public car park, right in front of the current office, which has been located for more than 24 years in a municipally owned building that is insufficient to meet current healthcare demands and cannot be expanded to allocate more space for health consultations. This has made it difficult in recent years to improve the service portfolio and increase healthcare activity.

The new building will consist of a single plant of 350 square meters with two differentiated accesses and one hundred percent accessible: one general and one for emergencies. It has an area for admission and administrative management; six consultations, four for adults and two for pediatrics, in addition to their respective waiting rooms and toilets. It also has an emergency area, a warehouse, several technical rooms and spaces for the staff of the SCS.
