The Parliament of the Canary Islands inaugurated this Wednesday the exhibition ‘Illustrators & Illustrated 3’, an exhibition that brings together the work of 105 Canarian artists and that is consolidated in its third edition as a platform for the promotion of talent in the field of graphic art, an initiative of the Canarian Cinema+Comics Foundation and the Common Council.
The opening ceremony was attended by the president of the Chamber, Gustavo Matos; the Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes; the Special Deputy for Equality between Men and Women and Gender Violence of the Diputación del Común, Beatriz Barrera, and the president of the Fundación Canaria Cine+Comics, Francisco Pomares.
“This presidency has intended that the Parliament of the Canary Islands, in addition to carrying out its functions, be a point of debate and reflection for all the people who have something to contribute to that conversation that society must have with itself, and with its representatives,” he said. the president of the Chamber at the beginning of the inauguration.
“Art and culture differentiate and mark societies. Comics and graphic art mark current times, they are the artistic and cultural expression that best identifies an entire generation. If we want to be representative of the entire society, exhibitions like this they have to be here,” concluded Matos.
For his part, the president of the Fundación Canaria Cine+Comics, Francisco Pomares, stated that the intention was to maintain this project and give it continuity “to continue giving space and projection to the work that these artists have developed, also as a way of professionalizing the talent”.
Beatriz Barrera highlighted the importance of the initiative: “We wanted to make women’s talent visible because in many aspects it is still necessary. The work of this Cine Más Cómics Foundation is commendable, creating that space to develop artistic talent in the field of comics “.
The Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, stated that during the X legislature the Parliament of the Canary Islands had made an effort to open up and get closer to the population, “from the Diputación del Común we have also walked in that direction, disseminating principles such as equality through the promotion of values”, concluded Yanes.
‘Illustrators & Illustrated’ will be in the Exhibition Hall of the Canary Islands Chamber until May 6, from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday mornings.
