The Gran Hotel Bahía del Duque in Costa Adeje hosted the II. Czech – Slovak Charity Ball, a charity event organized by the communities of both countries and in favor of the Dagmar and Václav Havel VIZE97 Foundation. After the great success of the first edition, which took place in April 2019 in Pirámides de Arona, the organizers decided to continue with the tradition.
The Dance is based on one of the most deeply rooted traditions in these two countries, heir to the culture of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The best-known event of this nature is undoubtedly the Vienna Opera Ball, but there is a wide variety of recreations that are held in enclaves where the Czech and Slovak communities have special roots. In the case of Tenerife, the island has become one of the main destinations chosen by citizens of these nationalities to enjoy their holidays, settle as residents, or have a second family home.
This very special gala night was not only for the Czech-Slovak community, but also attended by prominent personalities from the political and social life of the island Liskel Álvarez Domínguez, CEO of Foreign Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, Councilor of the Department of Tourism and Sports z Fourth Deputy Mayor of the Adeje City Council.
The second edition of the dance was organized by the Association of Czechs and Slovaks in the Canary Islands in collaboration with the travel agency Canaria Travel, the Hispano-Czech Chamber of Commerce and with the support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic and Slovakia in Spain.
The event was attended by the President of the VIZE97 Foundation Mrs. Dagmar Havlová, the Ambassadors of both countries in Spain – Mr. Ivan Jančárek and Mr. Juraj Tomaga and their wives, both Honorary Consuls Mrs. Marcela Tosal for the Czech Republic and Mr. Francisco Perera for Slovakia, Director of Canaria Travel Mrs. Lenka Viková, Director of the Hispano-Czech Chamber of Commerce Mrs. Jitka Loucká and also important personalities from the Czech and Slovak cultural and business scene.
The evening began with a welcome drink in the beautiful gardens of the emblematic Bahía del Duque hotel and continued in the España Room. The big surprise at the beginning was the performance of Los Joroperos. Czech and Slovak artists Dasha and Pájky Pájk, Michal David and Peter Nagy, the winners of the Star Dance competition Michal Kurtiš and Adriana Mašková and the Czech dancer and choreographer based in Tenerife Sylva Huderlik performed during the evening.
The dance was possible thanks to the collaboration of the airline Smart Wings, Canaria Travel, Britterm, Logspeed, the support of important Czech businessmen, including Ing. Richard Chlad, Turismo Tenerife, Czech Tourism and Tenerife Sur Airport.
