The Cabildo de Tenerife allocates 60,000 euros this year, 10,000 euros more than in 2022, to strengthen the associative fabric and the social inclusion of the Roma people in Tenerife.
The purpose of the economic item is to finance participatory projects for social inclusion, to give the Roma community a voice, make their reality visible, fight against anti-gypsyism and promote their integration into community life, according to a note from the island corporation.
Through these aids, the Cabildo will collaborate in the financing of different actions that promote participation and social integration, and thus continue advancing in equal rights and opportunities, for a plural and inclusive society.
In addition, special emphasis will be placed on actions aimed at women, which encourage their participation in local life, their training and job placement.
The entities will have a period of 20 business days to present their proposals from the day after their publication in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) and the projects that are beneficiaries will have an execution period between June 1, 2023 and the June 1, 2024.
In order to work with the Roma population on the island, the Cabildo, through the Citizen Participation and Diversity area, has set up the Insular Table for the Roma People as a space for dialogue and participation, in which the associations themselves transfer their proposals and needs.
The Board has a work commission on education and employment, whose objective is to promote actions that facilitate the continuity of studies and improve employability.
The Cabildo informs that a specific commission has also been created to give Roma women a voice, deal with the issues that affect them and outline actions that respond to their real needs, that contribute to their empowerment, and to promote their training to help them undertake .
