Tenerife Lan Party (TLP) cancels its 2023 edition “due to lack of support from the Cabildo». This is stated by the organization of the technology and leisure event through a statement. The Island Corporation denies this and assures that it offered alternative dates to those requested -they were already committed- for its development at the Fairgrounds, but they were not accepted.
In a statement made public yesterday, the organization argues that “after fifteen successful editions”, it has been forced to “make this difficult decision” due to “the lack of availability of the Fairgrounds during the months of May, June, July and September». In it, the promoters of the TLP acknowledge that they had received the proposal to hold the TLP “just the weekend after another event of similar characteristics”, but the organization decided to reject this option so as not to harm it.
It refers to Tenerife GG, Forum dedicated to the culture of video games, esports and technology. It was born in 2022 and its first edition took place from July 12 to 17 of last year, with a successful attendance: 15,500 people. There are already dates for the second edition, from July 11 to 16, at the Tenerife Fairgrounds.
The council clarifies it
The island government assured last night that “the promoters of the TLP requested to reserve the Fairgrounds for the end of June 2023. They were informed that the date they requested was not possible as it was not available and they were offered the weekend of July 28, 29 and 30 for the celebration of the event. At the time they accepted the date, but in December, four months ago, they rejected it. After that last contact, they have not gone back to the Fairgrounds to consult new dates or alternatives »to celebrate the Tenerife Lan Party.
The structures of TLP and GG are very similar. Both events have various spaces where young people meet, especially those interested in new trends, technological innovation, video games, K-pop, cosplay, board games, esports, role-playing games, manga, comics, anime and otaku culture.
“The cancellation of TLP Tenerife 2023 represents a great loss for the cultural and leisure offer in Tenerife”states in its statement the organization, “as well as for the community of young people and fans of all Canary Islands who were looking forward to the arrival of the event ». At the same time, the group is aware of “the concern among suppliers and local businesses that benefited from the economic impact generated” by the Tenerife Lan party.
The promoters of TLP affirm that “the cancellation is a difficult and painful decision”, but they hope “to celebrate it again in the future with the support of the institutions and the community.” In this sense, “the organization will continue working to guarantee the continuity of the event and explore new forms of financing and institutional support.” He hopes that “the Cabildo de Tenerife will change its mind and collaborate again in future editions.” The insular government assures, on the other hand, that it has always maintained its support.
“The cancellation of TLP Tenerife 2023 is a great loss for the technology and entertainment community in the Canary Islands”, adds the organization that, at the same time, adds in its statement that it wishes to “express its gratitude to sponsors, collaborators and attendees for their support and comprehension” and that “he hopes to have them in future editions”.
