The general secretary of the PSOE of La Laguna and current mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, yesterday presented his candidacy for re-election, as well as the group of women and men who will accompany him in the elections on May 28. The candidate described it as “the commitment team”, because “they will help me complete the government program that we started almost four years ago now to make the municipality more equal, more sustainable and with more opportunities for the future for young people. ” and showed his conviction that “the lagoons and lagoons know that we are the only viable government.”
The event was attended by numerous leaders of the PSOE of the Canary Islands, such as its general secretary and regional president, Ángel Víctor Torres, the president of the Cabildo and insular secretary, Pedro Martín, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, the secretary of regional Organization of the PSOE, Nira Fierro, or the MEP Juan Fernando López Aguilar, among others.
“We look our neighbors in the eye because the policy is to keep our word,” said Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, who recalled that “we have fulfilled 80% of the commitments we made,” so the neighbors know that “we are the only alternative that can provide stability” and guide the development of La Laguna.
For the candidate, “the illusion is palpable”, it has been “four difficult years, but we have always had the support of the administrations”. “It has not been easy because 26 uninterrupted years of a government that did not look after the interests of the people is a long time. From minute one we wanted to do things differently and we have shown that it was possible”, he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism recalled how Luis Yeray sold an exciting project for La Laguna in 2019 and with effort “has made us get used to good management in the municipality.” “You are the best thing that has happened in the city in decades,” added Nira Fierro.
For his part, Ángel Víctor Torres valued the recovery of the Mayor’s Office for the PSOE and “the clear results in four hard years”, among which he highlighted that it has been the Government “that begins to build the houses of Las Chumberas”, the one that projects the floodable park and the one that recovers the old bus station as the future headquarters of the Local Police. It has been, without a doubt, “a change for the better” and “I am sure that Luis Yeray will be re-elected, because there is a feeling of appreciation for the work he has done” among the citizens, he affirmed. Pedro Martín described him as “the man determined to carry out the affairs of La Laguna”, because “there are commitments that he already had to fulfill” after many years of neglect, such as Las Chumberas or the Bajamar dam.
