Tenerife will host the Waves Congress on April 21 and 22, the first congress dedicated to the surf industry on the island, which, free of charge, although for a limited capacity, will discuss the challenges and opportunities that this sport offers not only to the destination from the point of view of economic and social development, but also from the benefits it generates for the people who practice it, improving their quality and lifestyle.
The congress, organized by Las Américas Surf Pro with the support of Spring Hotels, will begin on the afternoon of April 21 from the Hotel Bitácora with the Bitácora Surf Talks. Four talks that will navigate on sport as a way of life, entrepreneurship, sports tourism and new technologies.
The starting point will be the talk ‘Sport, a way of life’, with the participation of Devi Pereyra Kroll (psychologist and yoga teacher), Gianluca Cherubino (head of the general surgery and digestive system service at Hospiten Sur, and amateur surfer ), Javier Pérez (founder of Canary Run) and Félix Trujillo (surf coach and owner of the Kontraola school).
Next, the conversation ‘Entrepreneurship in the world of surfing and sliding sports’ will begin, with the participation of Karla Imbert (project consultant for ROXY), Xué Gil (CBO of YOW), Sofía Dias (brand manager of Lighting Bolt) and Manuel Gomez (Radical Surf Wave).
The third talk will have as its main theme “Sports tourism as a lever for socio-economic and sustainable development” and will include the participation of Miguel Villarroya (general director of Spring Hotels), Maurici Carbó (general director of Sports Tourism Consulting), Ángel Lobo (president of the Canarian Surf Federation) and María Martín (Lanzarote European Sports Destination).
The Blog Surf Talks will culminate with ‘The new technologies of surfing’, a talk in which Christoph Kiessling (Vice President of the Loro Parque Group and General Manager of Siam Park and Poema del Mar), Ramón Casanovas (CEO of Honna Surf Hub) and Fernando Odriozola (co-founder of Wavegarden) will talk about the enormous benefits that the development of new technologies such as artificial waves can bring to the industry, something that can be heard live on the afternoon of the following day (April 22) from Expression Session, which will take place at Siam Park once the park has closed its doors to the public.
At that moment the already famous artificial wave of the park will be activated and eight professional surfers will prove their worth to discover who among them is the most complete surfer, competing for the best Performance Maneuver and the best Retro Maneuver.
This congress is free and open to the public, although to access it you will have to register through this platform and its capacity is limited.
