He was a member of the Socialist Youth, and not long ago, because he is still very young. Naím Alonso Yánez, from Valle San Lorenzo, is the first candidate that Vox presents to local elections in the southern municipality of Arona and, in addition, it will combine it with his candidacy for the Parliament of the Canary Islands, for the island of La Gomera.
–Why has Vox taken the step of presenting itself for the first time in Arona?
“It is true that these are our first municipal elections. We have achieved a group of hard-working women and men who believe that Arona can be improved if other people lead it. In 2019 we presented ourselves in Santa Cruz and La Laguna, but now we are going to present ourselves in many municipalities and Arona is a very important place that needs a change”.
-Talk about change. For change, yours, who has gone from the left to the extreme right. How do you explain it?
“It’s right. I have been a member of the left. But that only goes to show that Vox is not the party of the categories, we are not talking about the right. We talk about common sense, freedom, security, we talk about only Vox left, that’s our ideology. Precisely my personal journey was to be in Juventudes Socialistas in 2018 and learn about the reality of the PSOE, ending up disappointed with the personalities, which later, over time, resulted in the rupture of the socialist majority that the mayor, José Julián Mena, had.
-You were thick and thin with Jorge Alayón, secretary of the Socialist Youth.
“It is one of the reasons for my disappointment, that is why I know first-hand what has happened to the Socialists of Arona”.
-You speak of freedom and your party is against laws such as abortion.
“Voltaire said that sometimes common sense is the least common sense. In the end we are always in favor of life and that is well explained by our parliamentary group in Congress”.
Is there gender violence?
“There is violence, and that is what we consider at Vox. There is violence of all kinds, and wherever it comes from it must be condemned”.
-Tell me about your electoral list
“We are a team of workers, as I like to say. There are residents of El Fraile, Las Galletas, Buzanada, Valle San Lorenzo, like myself, from all the neighborhoods of a municipality as large as Arona. We have everything from a self-employed person, to a taxi driver, to a local police officer, there is everything”.
-And is there an immigrant on that list?
“The list is not closed yet, but everyone who works for Arona can go on our plate. You have to take into account the type of immigration, and we have members and supporters who come from abroad, like Mohamed, a trader who complains about the high municipal taxes”.
-What is the diagnosis that Vox has about the municipality of Arona?
“The diagnosis is that common sense is needed. It can be given as an example that 5.7 million euros of Social Services have not been managed, that the most basic public services are not taken care of, we do not have night security. We want to change all that.”
-A curiosity. Why are you running for Parliament for the island of La Gomera?
“My grandmother is from La Palmita, in Agulo, and in Valle San Lorenzo I live in a house full of emigrants from La Gomera.”
