The ‘return operation’ in Tenerife, without traffic jams and more fluid than expected

Thousands of people from Tenerife who spent the Easter in the south of the island or in La Gomera, La Palma or El Hierro, which exceeded 90% occupancy since Thursday, returned to their homes yesterday without suffering the dreaded traffic jams or those usual kilometric queues on this mini-vacation. The return operation went smoothly.

Queues were only appreciated, late at night, in the departure from Los Cristianos, when the arrival of the last ships and the departure of those furthest behind in leaving the apartments and hotels coincided. Otherwise, calm on the roads, with great fluidity from morning until late afternoon.

The people of Tenerife, fearful of those traffic jams that are our daily bread -not only at Easter-, knew how to space out their returns, many of them doing so early yesterday, which finally made it possible to see no queues even in Costa Adeje neither in Guaza nor in San Isidro nor in the curve of Las Caletillas, since there were also no accidents that obstructed traffic.

As reported by the Port Authority, the port of Los Cristianos hosted since Wednesday the second massive departure of passengers scheduled for La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro, on the occasion of Holy Week. Specifically, 19,000 passengers and 4,840 passenger vehicles boarded, distributed in eleven regular traffic ferry departures on Wednesday and thirteen on Holy Thursday.

Regarding the return operation, the occupancy level was also above normal. On Saturday there were nine planned ship calls and fifteen calls were made yesterday, which means a total of twenty-four passenger embarkation and disembarkation operations carried out in two days. It is calculated a total volume of 26,000 passengers and almost 5,000 vehicles that traveled by sea over the weekend from the three peripheral islands to Los Cristianos during the return operation.

As the Port Authority has already announced, in order to avoid retentions at the exit of the port of Los Cristianos in the return operation, an alternative incorporation to the TF-1 was enabled, as was already done during the celebration of Carnival in the municipality , which, as reflected yesterday, due to its fluidity, was once again a success.
