He Santa Cruz City Hall tomorrow organizes a new vote in the taxi sector to increase the number of licenses in service on weekends and holidays. Specifically, the sector is consulted if the service provision is increased from the current 50% to 80%, as approved in the Last Taxi Table.
In the last vote of this type, it was approved to increase the number of taxis on the street from 60% to 80% on the days that there were cruise ships in the city and with this new vote it is intended that this percentage be the same on weekends. As stated in the decree signed by the councilor responsible for the Public Transport area, Dámaso Arteaga, “in recent months, this administration and by persons holding a Municipal Auto-Taxi License and related to the taxi sector, applications requiring the implementation of the free exercise of the profession”.
Specifically, it is pointed out that there is a file that contains various requests to lift restrictions related to the calendar for the taxi activity.
But requests have not only been collected from taxi drivers but also from “taxi service users expressing the lack of taxis at stops or stations at certain hours of the day”.

With this background and the request formally made at the Taxi Table held on March 22, 2023, it was agreed to carry out a consultation to find out the position of the license holders in the sector.
From the taxi sector, those who are in favor of increasing the service yesterday requested the participation of the sector. Marcela Inés D’Agostino points out that there is already a sentence, not yet final, that guarantees that taxi drivers work without restrictions.
