Representatives of the Neighborhood Association “Historical Center of La Laguna” have filed a complaint with the Common Deputy to denounce that they suffer from noise problems due to nightlife in the municipality, and request that the legislation on this matter be complied with.
In a meeting with the head of the institution, Rafael Yanes, the neighborhood representatives remarked that it is not a current problem, since “for a long time” what is established in the regulations has not been complied with and the result is that “it is creating a situation of impunity”.
The Association stressed that “no transport with more than 3,000 kilos can circulate through the historic center, nor can it exceed 60 decibels in the old town, two requirements that are not being met,” adds a note from the Common Deputy.
The president of the Association, Pablo Reyes, called for “a rational use” of public spaces since, although the activities generate economy, they require coordination and control of sound.
This situation causes sleep and health problems in the neighbors and according to Reyes, there are several complaints filed by the Association due to noise pollution and non-compliance with the schedules of street artists.
The Common deputy promised to contact the La Laguna City Council to find out if the municipal ordinance is being complied with.
“These types of complaints are common in the Diputación del Común, since it is a problem to combine the right to leisure with the right to rest,” he added.
