He PSOE of The lagoon has assured in a press release that the accusations against the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, regarding an alleged crime of prevarication in the appointment of former socialist senator Julio Cruz as director of the Presidency Area of the Laguna City Council, “they lack foundation”: “Its reiteration supposes a political persecution for ideological and spurious reasons, against an official by a defecting councilor (referring to Alfredo Gómez).
The Socialists defend that this commission of service has “all the competent technical and legal reports” and its resolution is “in accordance with the law.” At the same time, the party defends this procedure that has been carried out in previous legislatures: “For example, the appointment of an official in the same position, later or previously, a senior position at the service of the Canary Coalition governments.”
The PSOE concludes by stating that it is a “political persecution” that seeks to “do harm at an electoral moment, trying to generate confusion and baseless accusations.”
The magistrate-judge of the Investigating Court Number 3 of La Laguna has opened proceedings against the mayor for an alleged crime of prevarication. The complainant, the non-attached councilor Alfredo Gómez, understands that the appointment of Julio Cruz is contrary to the legal system.
For this reason, the magistrate has requested the minutes of the session held by the Local Government Board on May 31, 2022, in which, as a matter of urgency, the secondment of Julio Cruz to the aforementioned area was agreed.
Also, it has asked the Consistory for the certification accrediting the performance by Julio Cruz of public office in the City Council and the complete file of secondment to the position of director of the Presidency and Planning area.
