The jetty of the Masca ravine, in the municipality of Buena Vista del Norteis already operational after the completion of the conditioning works carried out by the Cabildo de Tenerife and which will complete the possibility of going out by sea after making the visit path to the bed of the ravine enabled two years ago.
This is a demand from many years ago, not only from the northern City Council, but also from Santiago del Teide, since until now the people who made this path, one of the most visited on the Island, had to return to the starting point once it is completed.
The new infrastructure consists of a 46-block concrete dock and a walkway and replaces the old pier that existed in the area and a boarding platform that can also be used as a heliport. The investment in this new infrastructure has exceeded 1.6 million euros and will make it possible to “pick up walkers who walk the path of the ravine and go out by sea to Los Gigantes, or in the future to Teno, when the pier is built for that zone”, indicated yesterday the insular councilor for Natural Environment Management and Security, Isabel García, during the visit made to this new resource, together with the mayor, Antonio Gonzalez Fortes. The Tenerife Corporation’s action in the Masca ravine began with the start-up of a new visitor center in the Caserío and the rehabilitation of the path, as well as setting up a new reservation system, pointed out the counselor.
In this sense, he added that “this has managed to reduce the accident rate in one of the black spots of the island’s natural environment, where falls and rescues used to occur that put people’s safety at stake.”
“With this jetty, which will be managed by the City Council, we closed the circle opened in March 2021 when the ravine path was reopened and through which some 20,000 people have already passed,” said the counselor, who also pointed out that “more than 100,000 have entered the Visitors Center, and we anticipate that now, that there will be departures by sea, that number will increase”.
a tremendous opportunity
For his part, the mayor indicated that for the municipality the reception of this jetty “is a tremendous opportunity to ensure that the flow of visitors that is going to go down the ravine can be directed towards Punta de Teno.”
Likewise, he added that, in this way, the offer to visit the Rural Park will be diversified “connecting Masca with the rest of the park and helping the development of towns such as El Palmar or Las Portelas, and that the tourist reality that is generated in Masca is linked to the town of Buenavista del Norte and its surroundings and not only to the South of Tenerife”.
Isabel García recalled that “in order to access the path you have to request authorization through the web and with this the number of people who run through the ravine will be managed and thus be able to control its safety and sustainability with criteria of load capacity.”
Finally, the island councilor made an appeal for people who come to Masca to do so by public transport, because there is a shortage of parking spaces in the village.
The Cabildo opens the way to draft the Teno project for 263,573 euros
The Cabildo de Tenerife approved on Tuesday the contracting file for the drafting of the Teno pier project, also in Buenavista, for a value of 263,573 euros.
The insular president, Pedro Martín, explained that “currently the ship that keeps the fishing boats has multiple structural problems, as well as the dock, which is affected by storms and both the parking lot and the accesses are not conditioned.”
The objective of this project, which has an execution period of nine months, “is to adapt and rehabilitate the dock to protect this jetty of great strategic value, which will improve the fishing area and allow the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers in the area, with special interest on the part of Buenavista to direct part of the visitors that travel through the Masca ravine towards Punta de Teno”.
