The best cheeses of Canary Islands to the Ethnographic Park of Pinolere, in La Orotava. The space will host next Saturday and Sunday (from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.) the XII Cheese Fair of Canary Islands with numerous spaces for tasting and selling milk derivatives and other traditional gastronomic products, as well as wines from the Valle de La Orotava Denomination of Origin and craft beers from the Canary Islands.
The Canarian Cheese Fair will start next Saturday with the exhibition of the native Canarian breeds (seven breeds of dogs, goats, chickens, sheep, cows, black pigs, donkeys, bees, birds…) and will continue with the monographic contest of the La Palma mouse dog. Then the first canary hound dog contest will be held, a milking workshop and the inauguration by the authorities. There will also be an act of homage to Isidoro Jiménez Pérez, master cheesemaker, and to Ricardo Oramas and Miguel Ángel González, judges and breeders of native breeds.
In addition, on Saturday there will be the awards ceremony for the winners of the tenth cheese contest of Tenerife. In the afternoon, the fourth Garafiano shepherd dog contest will be held, a commented tasting of transhumance cheeses from the Canary Islands, a milking workshop, the fifth monographic contest of the little herreño wolf, a tasting workshop of the award-winning cheeses and a tribute to José Manuel Martín Reyes –known as Manuel El Cabrero– for his career linked to bathing goats in the sea. Everything will be animated by musical performances.
Next Sunday’s event will start with the tenth Presa Canario Monographic Contest. This will be followed by the presentation of the exhibition of the autochthonous breeds of the Canary Islands and the seven breeds of dogs, a sensory workshop to taste three cheeses and three wines from three islands, children’s workshops on traditional milking of goats and a musical performance of the parrandas. El Chaboco and La Sebada from Fuerteventura, together with the Erasmo Hernández dance group from Gran Canaria. Tickets can be purchased until Friday at the post located on the Bridge, with which wedges of cheese from La Orotava are given away.
The Pinolere Cultural Association counts to organize the XII Cheese Fair of the Canary Islands with the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islandsthe Cabildo de Tenerife, the City Council of La Orotava and private entities.
